Arsenal dominate in a win over AC Milan

Saka scored the only goal in a first pre season match

Good news: Arsenal won their first pre season match, against Italian giants AC Milan. The team looked great, they were all over their opponents, attacking at will and there was no injuries afterwards, which is often an underrated fact. Bad news: It was only a friendly game against an opponent who totally failed last season, has a new coach and is yet to change the squad with some badly needed new players. But Mikel Arteta will surely be satisfied, as his team should have scored more goals and looked aggressive and full of will to play and win.

Arteta decided to field one of his newly aquirred players Christian Norgaard from Brentford and the Dane was paired in the center of midfield with Declan Rice and Ethan Nwaneri. Martin Odegaard started from the bench, as well as another new player, Martin Zubimendi. Kai Havertz made his first start of any kind since February 2025 and was a striker. First half was all about Arsenal who attacked almost on will. The Gunners were especially active on the right side of the field, where Milan’s youngster Davide Bartesaghi was playing and many attacks started either from White or Saka. Arsenal had numerous chances but they usually ended without a proper shot on goal. Either it was off target shot, or the ball ended into the body of a Milan player. But, there were two real good opportunites, one in the 24th minute, when Nwaeri got the ball from Norgaard and smashed it into the goal, forcing Milan keeper Terracciano to tip it off, and the second one in the 45th minute, when Calafiori’s header was stopped at the goal line.

Second half brought new players on the field, but Arsenal’s dominance continued without interception. Bukayo Saka scored just before he was subbed. Kiwior made a great cross and Saka was there to execute it perfectly. The second half brought Zubimendi and Odegaard onto the pitch and AC Milan really couldn’t match the Gunners. Arsenal’s captain should have scored in the 64th minute, but his strike went just wide of the post, while the Milan’s reserve keeper made a great save in the 75th minute to deny Merino.
