It is the first time he is being called up to the senior squad since 2021, where he played no minutes in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers

Alwyn Tera is the latest member to join Engin Firat’s squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers after receiving a late call up on Wednesday.

Tera, 27, was reported to be on his way to Uganda when the news first emerged and is expected to play a role in Kenya’s twin matches against Zimbabwe and Namibia respectively.

This will mark the second time the midfielder will be making his way to the Harambee Stars squad, after receiving his maiden call-up in November 2021 for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Uganda.

He is however yet to get a minute for the national team, but with Firat calling him up again means that his time for a senior debut could be on the cards.

In Armenian side Ararat, Tera has scored six goals in four seasons and was recently on the scoresheet against Alashkert on Thursday 30 August.

His discipline on the field is a thing to marvel at, as he has only received four red cards in over 200 appearances in club football in Armenia and Georgia combined.

With early indications indicating the need for a strong defense and rear guard action against the Group J opponents, Tera could be the wildcard in Firat’s squad.

The former Kenya U23 player joins his teammate Amos Nondi in the setup after his return from injury.
