He is seen as a replacement for departed assistant Iddi Salim, and will operate under head coach Salim Babu

Former Kenyan international Anthony ‘Modo’ Kimani has joined Kenya Police FC as an assistant coach, Mozzart Sport can reveal.

Kimani, a CAF A licensed coach, comes in as a replacement for former assistant and goalkeeper trainer Iddi Abdul Salim, who left the club on Friday.

Sources close to the situation indicate that Salim, who also holds a CAF A license, is set to join the Botswana national team as their new goalkeepers’ coach.

It is expected that Kimani, who parted ways with Ulinzi Stars in the off-season, will for FKF’s club licensing purposes, be registered as the team’s head coach, but technically working under Salim Babu.

Just as in the case of Iddi, Babu, a CAF B license holder, will remain the overall man in charge.

In the new club licensing rules announced by FKF for next season, all Premier League coaches must possess a CAF A license, with assistants having CAF B.

The same rules apply for the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, and it is thus expected that Kimani’s role at Kenya Police will begin this weekend.

Kenya Police, by winning last season’s Mozzart Bet Cup, will dip their toes for the first time in the Confederation Cup, when they face Ethiopian Coffee FC in the first preliminary round first-leg match on Sunday at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Kimani, in his first full season at Ulinzi, saw his team lurk around the relegation places, before securing safety with a 12th-place finish.

The 35-year-old started his coaching career at AFC Leopards as the second assistant coach after a long playing career with Mathare United and Ingwe.
