The Gunners disappoint their fans with a goalless draw at Emirates against not more than solid Villareal. The Spaniards go through on aggregate (2-1)

What a disappointment for the Gunners! Arsenal won't play against Manchester United in the Europa League final, after a goalless draw against Villareal at Emirates (2-1 on aggregate for Spaniards).

Mikel Arteta's squad failed to arrange an all-Premier League final, just like Chelsea and Manchester City did in the Champions League, which will surely cause massive critics towards the players and Arteta himself.

Despite the fact the Gunners were trailing 2-1 on aggregate, they found it hard to create many chances in the first half an hour. On the other end, Parejo's free-kick went really close to the target; Leno could only follow the ball with his eyes, but Arsenal were lucky enough not to concede.

That luck, however, changed when Aubameyang fired smoothly from the corner of the box with the ball hitting the right post and going wide.

After the break, Arsenal looked much better than in the first half, but Pepe and Smith Rowe were not accurate enough to score an opener and tie this two-leg tie at two. However, if it wasn't for Gerard Moreno's selfishness, Villareal could have killed the game soon after.

What followed was a dreadful 30 minutes of slow, sterile football, without any important action on either end of the pitch. It all changed 13 minutes before the final whistle when Aubameyang received a lovely cross on the far post. His header was more than fine, but the woodwork and Villareal's keeper joined their forces to save the visitors.

Who would have thought this would be Arsenal's last shot on the target, let alone the last attempt to change things and eliminate Villareal. It was one mighty revenge served cold for the visitors, who lost to Arsenal in the 2006 UCL semifinal. This time, they deserved to win and will face Man Utd in the Europa League final in the Polish city of Gdansk.
