Since taking over as interim head coach, the former Zoo tactician has led the team in five matches, securing three wins and two draws.
AFC Leopards interim head coach, Fred Ambani, is drawing inspiration and confidence from his 1998 title-winning experience to steer the Kenyan giants towards FKF Premier League glory.
Ambani was part of the last squad to win the league with AFC Leopards, a season in which he also clinched the top scorer's title.
It has been nearly 27 years since Ingwe last lifted the trophy, a drought that Ambani hopes to end by inspiring the current squad to etch their names in the club's history.
“I was in that squad and also the top scorer that season. My success sets an example and helps them understand that I am here with a mission to reclaim the team's glory,” said Ambani.
The former Brooke Bond FC striker aims to cement his legacy by achieving success both a player and a coach.
“It would be the greatest honor of my life to win the league as a player and again as a coach. That would be historic,” he added.
In their last league match, a 2-0 win over Bandari FC, Ambani showcased his tactical ingenuity by fielding forward Ronald Sichenje in an unconventional left-back role due to injuries in the squad.
Sichenje not only impressed defensively but also scored a stunning goal.
“I spoke to Rooney (Ronald Sichenje) and convinced him he could handle the role. He was mentally prepared for the challenge. He’s a versatile player, and that adds tremendous value to the team,” Ambani explained.
Since taking over as interim head coach, the former Zoo tactician has led the team in five matches, securing three wins and two draws.
The strong performance has placed AFC Leopards fifth in the league with 22 points as the new year approaches.
