Lilian Awuor and Jentrix Shikangwa are former Vihiga Queens players who have made moves to Europe recently.

With news of Jentrix Shikangwa moving to Fatih Karagümrük still fresh, Harambee Starlets head coach Alex Alumira who was previously at the helm of Vihiga Queens is impressed with the players move to Europe.

Alumira left Vihiga Queens back in August 2021 to join Tanzania outfit Tiger Queens just before the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA qualifiers having won three consecutive titles with the Vihiga-based outfit.

The Starlets head coach was revelling with the recent moves of his former players to European clubs and opened up on his journey with the club.

“I feel privileged to have coached many talents at Vihiga Queens and I’m very happy to see most of them abroad, it’s something that I would love each and everyone one of them to do.

“Our first year in the Premier League was in 2016 and we were runners up to Thika Queens, we won the title in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and in my last season in the team we were second after losing to Gaspo in the semis,” said Alumira.

Former Vihiga Queens goalkeeper Lilian Awuor joined French top tier side ASJ Soyaux-Charente at the turn of the year that preceded the Shikangwa move.

Alumira was recently appointed as the Starlets head coach a move which delighted him but noted that his personality has cost him in some instances.

“To be appointed as a national team coach is the highest position a coach can hold in the whole world, if I'm entrusted with the responsibility of such magnitude it means there has been a success.

I have been victimized a lot and that comes because I criticize things that I feel are not okay which has denied me a lot of opportunities,” added Alumira.
