Young Nathaniel Brown came and raised Bayern's spending to 100 million
The Bundesliga transfer window has only just opened, and Bayern Munich have already unveiled two new signings—both carrying hefty price tags. Within the space of just three days, the Bavarian giants first announced Ismael Saibari (25) and then, this afternoon, Nathaniel Brown (23), in deals worth a combined 100 million euros. Brown arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt under virtually the same formula as Saibari. Bayern have paid 50 million up front, with another five million euros potentially due in performance-related bonuses. The German full-back has signed a five-year contract and joins Ismael Saibari and Kim Min-jae as the seventh-most expensive signing in Bayern's history.

He is expected to compete primarily with Alphonso Davies for the left-back position. Given the size of Bayern's investment and Davies' recent injury record, the Canadian international may have genuine reason to worry about his playing time after an already injury-disrupted campaign last season. Brown, meanwhile, has established himself as one of the brightest young left-backs in world football. Born in Amberg, he began his senior career at Nurnberg, making his professional debut in the 2. Bundesliga just over three years ago. After only a season and a half, Eintracht Frankfurt signed him for 5.5 million euros. It quickly proved to be an excellent piece of business. In his first season with Frankfurt, Brown recorded three goals and seven assists in 26 appearances. He followed that up with another impressive campaign, finishing with four goals and six assists across all competitions—more than enough to convince Bayern to make their move.
Brown also entered this World Cup as Julian Nagelsmann's first-choice left-back for Germany. In the opening match against Curacao, he marked the occasion with a goal and an assist, but Germany's tournament ended prematurely with a Round of 32 defeat to Paraguay, allowing the 23-year-old to complete the biggest transfer of his career earlier than expected.
"FC Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in the world. It means a great deal to me to have the opportunity to play here, and I'm incredibly proud. On top of that, I'm from Bavaria, which makes this move even more special. I've always dreamed of competing for the biggest trophies at the highest level. I've set the highest standards for myself and want to improve every single day. From my very first conversations with the club, I had an excellent feeling. Vincent Kompany, in particular, explained how he sees me and my development, and he completely convinced me" Brown said at his unveiling.
