K’Ogalo, who won the league last season, are the sole Kenyan representatives at the regional tournament scheduled for Friday, 24 July to Saturday, 8 August at both the Amahoro National Stadium, and the Kigali Pele Stadium.
Earlier reports from Rwanda this week announced that both Gor Mahia and Kenya Police would take part in the competition, but only the former was confirmed of its place in the event.
In their communication on Friday, 3 July, however, CECAFA named 11 teams, with the identity of a 12th team yet to be disclosed.
“We are excited that this tournament will give the 12 teams a platform to prepare well ahead of the CAF competitions kicking off in September 2026,” Jean Sseninde, the Interim Executive Director, said, adding that the 12th team would be announced on Monday, 6 July.
Gor Mahia will be taking part in the competition for the first time since 2024, when the side under former head coach Leonardo Neiva stumbled to a group-stage exit after failing to win any of their three pool matches.
In what is a competitive lineup, Tanzanian giants Simba SC carry the headlines, as they make their return to the event for the first time since 2018.
The six-time CECAFA Kagame Cup champions will be the sole Tanzanian representatives.
Other teams participating include: Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC, Somalia’s Mogadishu City, FC Garde Républicaine of Djibouti, KVZ FC of Zanzibar, Jamus SC of South Sudan, Al Hilal SC and El Merriekh SC of Sudan, and the two host clubs - APR and Rayon Sport.
Three Member Associations Ethiopia, Eritrea and Burundi will, however, not send teams to the competition.
