The 19-year-old joined the LaLiga club in July on a four-year deal that involved first enrolling him on the team’s feeder side, Celta Fortuna, for development.
Kibet’s move to Celta was received warmly by Kenyans who wished him luck and extended their love by flooding his team’s social media pages to ask for his whereabouts, wish him well, and even bully the club to play him.
Speaking to the media during Harambee Stars training session on Tuesday, 11 November at the Nyayo National Stadium, the soft-spoken forward responded to that support for the first time.
“It feels so good because I know the whole country is backing and supporting me, and therefore my duty is to work hard and make them proud because I am yet to make it to the first team,” said Kibet.
The teenage midfield sensation has been a revelation since his days in the school games at St. Antony’s Boys, Kitale, where his star began to rise and earned him a soft spot in the hearts of football faithful and Kenyans at large.
On several occasions, Kibet, who was part of the Kenya U20 squad that competed in the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), has trended, especially on X (formerly Twitter), but despite the stardom, he is grounded, trusting the process and took time to share his season’s targets.
“My target is to make it to the first team (at Celta Vigo) and for this season, win the Europa trophy, which we are competing for,” he added.
On the national fold, Kibet has already made a huge step after receiving his maiden senior national team call-up for Harambee Stars’ upcoming friendly matches against Equatorial Guinea and Senegal on Friday, 14 November and Tuesday, 18 November, respectively.
