The Bavarians are looking to offload expensive French winger
Bayern have been trying to sell Kingsley Coman (29) for over a year, but due to his extremely high salary and somewhat unrealistic demands (50,000,000 in transfer fee), they have been unable to find interested clubs in Europe. The Bavarians were hoping for an offer from the Middle East, waiting for one of the wealthy state-backed projects from Saudi Arabia to make contact — and they’ve finally got it. The French winger is a target for Al Nassr, who today submitted their first official bid to the Munich club worth 30,000,000. Bayern won’t simply give up on their goal of earning 50,000,000 from Coman’s sale, but there’s no doubt they will be far more flexible in negotiations than they were last January and throughout 2024, especially since next June he will be entering the final year of his contract — and turning 30 — meaning his market value can only decline.
In recent seasons, Kingsley Coman has mostly shared playing time with Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane. When fit, he has certainly contributed a great deal to Bayern’s play (after all, it was his goal that secured their last Champions League trophy), but with the arrival of Luis Díaz, the left-wing position will be almost “cemented” — for the Colombian, of course. The Frenchman did say during the Club World Cup that he would like to stay at the Allianz Arena, but at the time it wasn’t certain Bayern would be spending big to sign the former Porto and Liverpool player. Now, the situation has changed drastically — especially since Cristiano Ronaldo’s club has made Coman a concrete offer: with bonuses, he could earn up to 75,000,000 over a three-year contract, with 60,000,000 euros guaranteed.
From that perspective, it looks like a good business move for all three parties. Al Nassr would get another star “in his prime,” Bayern would offload a player who would otherwise be earning 17,000,000 gross on the bench, and Coman would spend the last years of his very successful career “in gold and velvet,” coasting along at half effort. As a reminder, Al Nassr have already signed Joao Felix this July, are on the verge of unveiling Inigo Martínez, and with Coman would likely wrap up their transfer business. On the other side, Bayern would almost certainly use the incoming funds to buy a new attacker before the transfer window closes.
