With three goals in the last four matches, the striker has helped the 2009 champions remain solid despite losing some key players in the off season transfer window

Sofapaka head coach Ezekiel Akwana has disclosed what his key striker Joseph Kuloba must do to make it to the upper echelons.

Kuloba has been a sensation at Batoto ba Mungu this season, leading the attacking line where he has scored three goals in his last four matches for the club.

The pacy striker scored a 95th-minute equaliser against Mara Sugar FC on Tuesday, 28 October, the opening goal in their 3-0 victory over Nairobi United on Saturday, 1 November, and sealed victory with a clean strike to secure a 2-0 win in their last match against Posta Rangers on Monday, 10 November.

Speaking to the media after the match, the former Mathare United tactician was pleased with the striker but also listed the attributes he must work on to be even better.

Kuloba is a very good striker. The only aspects of his game that he needs to improve on are being patient with the ball and learning when to shoot and when to cross. Nevertheless, he is such a good, upcoming striker,” said Akwana.

In the Monday afternoon clash, Kuloba beat Benard Odhiambo for strength and with the keeper to beat, he unleashed a hard shot to double Batoto Ba Mungu’s advantage in the 64th minute after Daniel Ng’ang’a had given them the lead in the 24th minute.

Akwana took time after the match to share the strategy that returned the 2009 champions to winning ways after previously losing to Kenya Police FC on Wednesday, 5 November.

“We were balancing pressing high up the pitch and still retaining superior numbers in midfield, which I am glad worked, and we got the maximum points,” he remarked.

The win took the Elly Kalekwa-owned side to seventh on the log, a decent position considering the loss of several key players in the off-season transfer window, with the tactician opening up on how the team has adapted.

“The most important thing is the technical and tactical aspect of the game. If there are changes in the team, then you have to make sure your new players adhere to and adapt to your philosophy, and that is what I have been working on,” he concluded.
