The tactician says not taking their chances is proving costly after throwing away points in their opening two games of the campaign
Bidco United head coach Anthony Akhulia has once again lamented his team’s poor finishing, saying it denied them a chance to pick up all three points against Nairobi City Stars on Sunday.
United will have to wait longer for their first win of the season after settling for a one-all draw with Simba Wa Nairobi on Sunday at the Kasarani Annex. City Stars scored first through Andrew Kisilu before substitute Samuel Ndung’u earned his team a point with a leveler two minutes after coming on.
It was largely a balanced clash, but had United been clinical, particularly in the first half, maybe they would have walked away with more than just the one point they earned. It is a feeling shared by Akhulia, who, for the second time in a week, witnessed his team throw away chances. Against Posta on the opening day of the season, they created many chances that they failed to make count, and in the end, they picked up a point against the mailmen.
"Once again, finishing was our biggest achilles heel. I believe that with the chances that we created, we would have sealed the game in the first half, but we looked timid in front of goal, throwing away very good opportunities, and it was only after we conceded that we looked a little more serious, got the equalizer, and maybe we should have scored a winner because we had two or three great chances," he stated.
The tactician now wants to make the most of the international break. Most of his focus will be on his team’s finishing.
"I think the break has come at the right time. We now go back to the drawing board and try to work on our finishing because I believe that all other departments are functioning well. We are creating chances, and we should start making them count. If we get our finishing right, I believe that we will be ready to go," he added.
Bidco will travel to Bungoma to face Nzoia Sugar FC after the international break.
