
AFCONQ round up: Uganda denied AFCON slot by Malawi

Qualified teams failed to end their campaigns on a high as most of them lost their final encounters.
Malawi sealed a place in the 2021 African Cup of Nations after edging Uganda 1-0, denying The Cranes a spot in the continental tourney with teams who missed out on a slot ending the qualifiers on a high.
Malawi 1-0 Uganda
Uganda only needed a point to qualify for the 2021 African Cup of Nations but fell at the hands of Malawi who sealed a place in the tourney with the victory.
Richard Mbulu scored the lone goal courtesy of a bullet header as he nodded in a cross from Stanley Sanudi and held on for the vital win.
Malawi now qualify for their third AFCON tournament and join Group B leaders Burkina Faso into the tournament.

Angola 2-0 Gabon
Angola also finished their campaign on a high by winning their first game in the qualifiers after beating Gabon 2-0.
Gabon rested a number of players including Arsenal skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but still had top of the group to fight for.
Angola’s goals came in the second half through Boavista midfielder Show and Sporting Lisbon forward Loide Augusto.

Burkina Faso 1-0 South Sudan
Burkina Faso qualified as Group B winners following their 1-0 win over South Sudan courtesy of a goal from Aston Villa forward Bertrand Traore.
The Stallions were however reduced to 10 men with 10 minutes left to the final whistle when Charles Kabore who is their most capped player was sent off for a second bookable offence.
South Sudan finish bottom of the group with three points that came from their 1-0 win over Uganda.
DR Congo 1-0 Gambia
DR Congo also ended their qualifiers on a strong footing as they beat Gambia who recently qualified for their first-ever AFCON tournament.
Congo missed out on qualification by a single point with their lone goal coming from El Masry forward Kazadi Kasengu.
Despite the loss, Gambia qualified as Group D winners with Congo missing out on the tourney for the first time since 2012.

Egypt 4-0 Comoros
Egypt recovered from their disappointing 1-1 draw against Harambee Stars to whitewash Comoros 4-0 and ended their qualifying campaign without a loss.
The goals came from Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny, Al Ahly midfielder Mohamed Sherif and a brace from Mohamed Salah.
The two nations will be heading for the tourney in January 2022 with Comoros qualifying for their first-ever tournament.
