The facility, which features functional media facade lighting, is expected to host test matches in 2026 before AFCON kicks off in June 2027.
The Presidential Suite of Uganda’s newly completed Hoima City Stadium, which is rivaling Kenya’s Talanta Sports City, is a sight to behold, according to videos shared online.
Hoima Stadium is an ultra-modern flagship project by the Ugandan government, featuring a 20,000-capacity stadium that will primarily be used for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Uganda is set to co-host the continental tournament alongside Kenya and Tanzania after the neighboring countries’ PAMOJA bid was successful.
In an X (formerly Twitter) video posted by Hoima Stadium, the facility's presidential suite is shown to be complete with state-of-the-art finishing.
The suite’s lounge has two main doors, one from the stands and the other from outside the stadium. Elegant lighting and a gypsum ceiling complement the leather sofas, where guests can sit and discuss while watching the match.
The lounge also features a bar area, ensuring guests enjoy a comfortable stay.
The space can comfortably accommodate over 20 guests at a time and includes a red carpet and a television (TV) for watching the action on the pitch if needed.
Construction of the stadium began in July 2024 on a 10-acre piece of land originally donated by the family of Dr. James Rujumba in 2020, before FUFA acquired a similar-sized plot.
The Ugandan Council of Sports later acquired an additional 14.9 acres. With a total of 34.9 acres, it became possible to construct a 20,000-seater stadium along with supporting facilities.
In less than 24 months since construction began, the stadium was completed in October and was commissioned by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Tuesday, 24 December.
The facility, which features functional media facade lighting, is expected to host test matches in 2026 before AFCON kicks off in June 2027.
In Kenya, Talanta Sports City is still under construction and is expected to be completed by March 2026.
