The Kenyan contingent will oversee Group B matches between Angola and Zimbabwe, as well as Egypt versus South Africa.

The first match on Friday will see Angola face Zimbabwe at 15:30 at the Stade de Marrakech, with Kenya’s Dr. Peter Kamaku serving as the center referee.

Kamaku will be assisted by compatriots Gilbert Cheruiyot and Stephen Yiembe, who will serve as the first and second assistant referees respectively.

This will be the second time in as many matches that Kamaku and Yiembe will oversee an Angola match, having previously served as fourth official and second assistant respectively in Angola’s opening clash against South Africa.

Both Angola and Zimbabwe will be seeking their first win in this edition after suffering losses in their opening matches against South Africa and Egypt respectively.

Following the Angola-Zimbabwe match, the second Group B fixture, Egypt versus South Africa, will take place at 18:00 at Stade Adrar in Agadir.

Kenyan referee Engineer Dickens Mimisa will serve as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for the match.

This will be the second time Mimisa officiates an Egyptian match, having previously served in the same capacity during Egypt’s 2-1 win over Zimbabwe in their opening match. He also served as Assistant Video Assistant Referee one in the match between Burkina Faso and Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday, 24 December.

These appointments highlight the growing pedigree of Kenyan referees, not only on the continent but also on the global stage.
