Macharia, a talented attacking midfielder who operated in the number 10 role, joined the club from Manyatta FC and became a central figure in 3K FC’s journey from grassroots football to the national stage.
His technical ability and influence in midfield earned him legendary status among the club’s supporters.
In a statement shared on social media, the club described Macharia as an important part of their history and acknowledged his contribution since the team’s formative years.
“Messi has been with the club from the very beginning. He is an important part of our history as a club and has been with us from the grassroots level to the top-flight level. Messi has decided to retire from football,” the statement started.
Beyond football, Macharia has developed skills in plumbing, a passion he hopes to turn into a full-time profession. In recognition of his service, 3K FC have pledged to support his next chapter by purchasing the tools and equipment needed to kick-start his plumbing career.
“Messi has skills in plumbing, away from football. The club will give him a proper send-off. One befitting a club legend. The club will purchase all the tools and equipment he will need to start his plumbing career,” 3KFC posted.
On his side, Macharia could not contain his excitement, noting that it was a proper goodbye.
“I can’t believe this is finally happening, but I knew one day it would get to this point,” Macharia said. “I am grateful to the club, and more so, the club chairman, for everything. I gave my best for this club, and I believe I am saying my goodbye in a proper way. Thank you, 3K fans,” he said.
His retirement comes as the club continues to establish itself in Kenya’s competitive football structure. The side secured promotion to the NSL in May 2024 after finishing top of the Division One Zone A league, clinching the spot with a 3–1 victory over Kibra United.
They currently sit seventh on the log with 28 points, nine behind leaders Migori Youth. So far, they have registered eight wins, four losses, and seven draws so far this season.
They will next welcome Luanda Villa on Sunday, 15 February, at Moi Stadium in Embu.
