After a two-week-long hiatus to pave the way for the round of 64 fixtures of the Mozzart Bet Cup, the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) roars back into action on Friday, 13 February, with a solitary fixture ushering in what promises to be a compelling Valentine’s weekend showdown.

At the heart of the resumption is a high-stakes round 20 encounter in Murang’a, where title hopefuls Kakamega Homeboyz face relegation-threatened Bidco United in a contest defined by contrasting ambitions.
For Homeboyz, the fixture carries added emotional weight. It will be their first league outing since the tragic passing of defender Silas Abungana eight days ago.
The defender had featured in their dramatic six-goal thriller against Mara Sugar on 1 February, a match that ultimately proved bittersweet.
Currently sixth on the 18-team log with 28 points, the Kakamega-based side trails league leaders Gor Mahia by a significant 12-point margin.

Victory on Friday would trim that deficit to nine points and potentially reignite faint but realistic hopes of mounting a late title charge, a pursuit of a first-ever FKF-PL crown that has persistently eluded the club.
The 2023 Mozzart Bet Cup champions entered the break under scrutiny after surrendering a commanding three-goal lead against Mara Sugar to settle for a 3-3 draw, a result that cost them third place and saw them slip further down the standings.
It was a performance that highlighted both their attacking prowess and defensive vulnerability.
Head coach Patrick Odhiambo has since acknowledged that mentality remains the critical missing link.
“We really need to work on our mental toughness, especially when we are leading. We've had chances to win matches previously, but it boiled down to mentality. That is something we must address immediately,” Odhiambo admitted.
The former KCB tactician emphasized that the clash against Bidco offers an opportunity not only to revive their title push but also to honor their fallen teammate.
“We need the points to reignite our title charge and equally to honor Silas. It’s a big blow to miss him, having cemented his place at the back and developed into a key figure in our league pursuit.”
Standing in their path is a desperate Bidco United side battling to preserve their top-flight status.
The Oilers sit second from bottom with 16 points, just two above basement side Sofapaka FC, and remain firmly plunged in the relegation dogfight.

It is a familiar predicament for the Thika-based outfit, which was largely entrenched in the relegation dogfight and only survived the drop on the final day last season.
Head coach Anthony Akhulia faces the daunting task of arresting a worrying 14-match winless streak.
Bidco’s last league victory dates back to 29 October 2025, when they edged Ulinzi Stars 2-1 in what marked their third win so far of the campaign.
Since then, late lapses and fading intensity in the closing stages have repeatedly cost them crucial points.
Their historical record against Homeboyz further compounds the challenge.
Bidco are winless in their last 14 league meetings between the two sides, with Homeboyz claiming eight victories while the remaining matches ended in stalemates.
Earlier this season, AbanaBeingo secured a convincing 3-1 triumph at Bukhungu Stadium, while last season’s corresponding fixture in Thika ended in a narrow 1-0 win for Homeboyz as they seek to extend their dominance in the fixture.

With two sharply contrasting narratives unfolding, Friday’s 3:00 pm kick-off presents more than just a routine league fixture.
For Odhiambo and his men, it will be about tribute and reviving belief in an unlikely title surge, while for Akhulia’s charges, it will be all about survival and halting a slide that threatens to define their campaign.
