
WU20: Kiptarus, kimosong punch 3000m final ticket as Wafula and Kibet confirm steeplechase medal contention

The finals are set for Saturday and Sunday morning respectively
Kenyan duo of Felix Kiptarus and Edwin Kimosong are through to the final of the men's 3000m at the ongoing World Athletics U20 Championships in Cali, Columbia after storming to victories in their respective heats.
Kiptarus stopped the clock at 7:58.12 in a much slower Heat 1 while Kimosong clocked 7:55.60 to finish first in the second heat, a much faster one that produced all the non-automatic qualifiers.

Eritrea's Habtom Samuel, who won bronze in Nairobi last in the same race, finished behind Kimosong, with Ethiopia's Diriba Girma and the Ugandan duo of Rogers Kibet and Dan Kibet being the other athletes to dip below the eight minutes mark ahead of the final.
The final is set for Saturday and guns off at 1:04 AM EAT.

In the mens 3000m steeplechase, both Haron Kibet and Emmanuel Wafula sailed through to the finals after finishing second in the second and third heat, clocking 8:47.25 and 8:49.57 respectively.
Ethiopia's Samuel Duguna was the fastest overall, recording a time of 8:44.83 and will seemingly be a contender for the top medal in the wee hours of Sunday when the final takes place at 1:20 AM EAT.
