NFL star Tyreek Hill and Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles are once again clashing in an ongoing rivalry about who truly deserves the title of "world's fastest man."
Hill, a Miami Dolphins wide receiver with a background in track, took to X (formerly Twitter) to mock Lyles after he narrowly defeated YouTuber IShowSpeed in a short exhibition race.
Hill found it amusing that the reigning sprint champion had to push himself to beat an amateur, teasing Lyles’ previous confidence and tweeting, “And track athletes think he gone beat me,” with crying-laughing emojis.
Lyles, unshaken, fired back with a cheeky response: "Awww feeling left out. I’ll dance across the line on you too," paired with a winking emoji.
This is only the latest instalment in their long-standing feud, which has captured fans’ attention with its mix of lighthearted banter and real competition.
The two athletes’ rivalry kicked off this August, following Lyles’ Olympic gold win, when Hill told sportscaster Kay Adams that he could “easily” beat the sprinter in a head-to-head race, even if the margin would be close.
Lyles responded by setting the terms: he would race Hill if the event were properly organized, had serious sponsorship, and if they competed in a 100-meter race.
In a direct challenge, he said, "You're racing against a guy who has worked his whole life to get the title of 'the world's fastest man,' and you've worked to be a great football player. You can't just jump the line because you're a great football player."
Fans of both athletes have been abuzz over the potential showdown, with many eager to see if Hill’s NFL speed could measure up to Lyles’ sprinting prowess.
Although the race is yet to materialize, their back-and-forth continues to build anticipation for a high-stakes showdown that would finally answer the question of who is truly faster.
Recently, Lyles competed against the young social media celebrity IShowSpeed in a 50-meter race for a $100,000 cash reward. Fans were shocked when Lyles barely defeated IShowSpeed.
Lyles, 27, and the 19-year-old, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr, were close when they crossed the finish line and even declared a tie.
There was a moment when Speed gained the lead, but Lyles drew ahead and took the victory. Lyles said he does not do rematches after Speed asked for a rematch and vowed to donate the $100,000 to a good cause.
