Track and field stars Sha'Carri Richardson and Mondo Duplantis will be honoured by their alma mater, Louisiana State University (LSU), during the upcoming LSU-Alabama football game.
This recognition comes just months after their successful performances at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Both athletes achieved impressive results for their respective countries, with Richardson winning a silver medal in the 200m and gold in the 4x100m relay, while Duplantis defended his pole vault title.
In recognition of these accomplishments, LSU will celebrate Richardson, Duplantis, and other notable LSU Olympians—including Vernon Norwood, Juan Celaya-Hernandez, Aleah Finnegan, Taryn Kloth, and Kristen Nuss—during the Tigers' matchup against Alabama.
LSU announced the ceremony on Instagram, writing:
"Repped LSU On The International Stage. We’re excited to welcome back our Olympians to be honored at the LSU-Alabama game this weekend!"
Both Richardson and Duplantis competed for LSU’s track and field team in 2019.
Richardson won the 100m event and placed second in the 200m at the 2019 NCAA Championships, while Duplantis finished second in pole vault at the NCAA Championships and won his event at the SEC Championships the same year.
Reflecting on their journey, Duplantis expressed pride in Richardson’s achievements, saying in an interview with Olympics.com, "I think both of us knew we were capable of these kinds of things.
I'm so proud of her. It's such a weird thing to think where we were then, not even just as athletes but as people, too. And then to see where we are now, it's super special."
Duplantis also commented on their success at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, where Richardson became the joint fifth-fastest 100m runner in the world with a time of 10.65 seconds.
