Cheruiyot, who has settled for silver at the last two editions of the Games in Gold Coast in 2018 and Birmingham in 2022, booked his ticket by winning the national trials in Nairobi and will spearhead Kenya's challenge in the newly introduced Mile event.

The experienced middle-distance runner will be joined by Reynold Cheruiyot and Brian Komen as Kenya seeks to dominate the event at the Games, scheduled for July 23 to August 2.

"I thank God for having been in running for a long time because staying active in athletics for many years is not easy. It takes a lot of focus and discipline, and I am happy that I will represent Kenya again, hoping to run well. We are one team, and together with Brian Komen and Reynold Cheruiyot, we want to bring the title home," said Cheruiyot.

The 29-year-old believes he is in the best condition to finally claim the one major title that has eluded him, revealing that his preparations began in October.

After struggling with injuries in recent seasons, Cheruiyot says he has enjoyed an uninterrupted training program and is fully focused on winning the gold medal in Glasgow.

Cheruiyot will be among the headline names in Kenya's 52-member athletics team, which also includes reigning Commonwealth 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala and world 800m champion Lilian Odira as the country targets another successful outing at the Games.
