Her attempt mirrors Sifan Hassan's in Tokyo where she won two gold medals, settling for bronze in the third event

The Ethiopian Athletics Federation announced its roster for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games on Saturday 6 July.

While there are some surprise omissions like Letesenbet Gidey, attention had been drawn to two-time world champion Gudaf Tsegay who will attempt a triple.

The 27-year-old has entered three races, two of them against Kenya's  Faith Kipyegon. The ambitious triple has her featuring in the 1500m, 5000m, and 10,000m races.

Tsegay, has run the third fastest 1500m time in history and holds the world record in the 5000m from last year’s Prefontaine Classic. She also posted the third fastest 10,000m time in June.

Tsegay will be up against Kipyegon who has already declared for the 1500m and 5000m double as she goes for a third title in her specialty.

The Ethiopian's attempt to compete in three events mirrors Sifan Hassan's run at the Covid-19-delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

She won gold in the 5000m and 10,000m, and bronze in the 1500m, becoming the only athlete to medal in all three events in the same Games.

At the 2023 World Championships, Hassan repeated her remarkable performance with silver in the 5000m and bronze in the 1500m, though she placed 11th in the 10,000m.
