His career was plagued by injuries alongside some personal legal issues that saw him fail to qualify for the World Championships in Budapest
After close to ten months of inaction following his 14th-place finish at the Monaco Diamond League (DL) on 21 July 2023, Conseslus Kipruto will be back on track as he competes the 3000m steeplechase in the Marrakech Diamond League.
The event set for Sunday 19 May has pitted the Olympic steeplechase champion against compatriots, reigning Commonwealth Games champion Abraham Kibiwott, former World U20 champion Amos Serem, and Olympic bronze medalist Benjamin Kigen.
Of the Kenyan quartet, Kibiwott is the favourite having won his first race in the distance this season at the Kip Keino Classic where he successfully defended his title in fashion, clocking 8:20.54. He was beaten to the line by Ethiopia's Samuel Firewu at the Doha Diamond League last week.
On his part, Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Serem who finished second at the Kip Keino Classic and fourth in Doha will look to improve on his placing when he competes in the fourth leg of the series.
Kigen, meanwhile will chase a better show in the race, having finished a disappointing 14th and 11th at home during the Classic and in Doha.
The Kenyans have their work cut out as they face, among others, Olympic and two-time World champion Soufiane el Bakkali who has since taken over the distance previously dominated by Kenyans.
