The defending champion will be attempting to become the first marathoner to win three consecutive Olympic golds

The search for the third gold medal in the ongoing Paris Olympic Games continues this morning, with the men’s marathon being the highlight event of Saturday action.

All the Kenya events will be beamed live on the country's state broadcaster KBC and Supersport.

Defending champion Eliud Kipchoge will be seeking to not only retain his crown but also become the first man to win three Olympic marathon titles in a row.

Kipchoge won gold in the Rio 2016 Games and successfully defended his title in the delayed Tokyo 2020 Games.

He will enjoy the company of London Marathon champion Alexander Mutiso and Tokyo Marathon champion Benson Kipruto.

Veteran Ethiopian marathoner Kenenisa Bekele and his compatriots are some of the big names that will look to spoil the party for the Kenyan men.

Kenya has accumulated two golds so far courtesy of Beatrice Chebet’s double in the 10000m and 5000m races.

The marathon kicks off at 9 am Kenyan time.

Kipchoge will not be the sole Kenyan seeking for third consecutive Olympic crown as Faith Kipyegon will be aiming for a similar feat as well when she lines up for the 1500m final.

Just like Kipchoge, Kipyegon won gold in Rio and Tokyo and will hope to cruise to victory tonight at the Stade de France.

The record holder has already won silver in the ongoing Games, having finished second in the 5000m final.

She will line up for the 1500m final, which is scheduled to kick off at 9:15 pm, alongside Susan Ejore.

There are hopes for more medals as Emmanuel Wanyonyi will race in the 800m final at 8:15 pm while the trio of Jacob Krop, Ronald Kwemoi, and Edwin Kurgat will line up in the men’s 5000m final at 8:50 pm.
