Speaking after a courageous run at the Nike-backed Breaking4 project in Paris on Thursday, 26 June, night, the Kenyan middle-distance star remained upbeat despite narrowly missing her target.

Kipyegon clocked 4:06.42 under the lights at Stade Charléty, falling just short but winning hearts with her defiant spirit.

I feel good, I have tried,” said the 31-year-old, who holds the World Record in the 1500m. “I came here to try and be the first woman to run the mile in under four minutes, and I have proven that it is possible today. It is only a matter of time.

In a moment that captured the imagination of athletics fans worldwide, Kipyegon hinted strongly that she would make another attempt 'in the near future'.

I know one day, one time, a woman will run the mile under four minutes. I will not lose hope. I will still go for it,” she said to roaring applause.

If not a special race like this, it might come in the Diamond League or a normal race. I will still chase it.”

The performance, despite falling short of the record books, was nothing short of electric. Fans inside the stadium, and millions watching globally, witnessed a masterclass in pacing and perseverance.

Thank you for coming to cheer me up,” Kipyegon added. “This was so special, and I am very grateful. Like Eliud Kipchoge showed in the marathon, I’ve proven that something special is possible.”

The night was crafted to match the scale of the moment. A rousing pre-race show set the tone, with a star-studded analysis team led by award-winning journalist MJ Acosta-Ruiz.

On the panel were Olympic silver medallist Keely Hodgkinson, nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis, and renowned NCAA coach Diljeet Taylor.

A moving video tribute preceded the race, detailing Kipyegon’s journey—her family, faith, and the high-tech shoes engineered specifically for this historic attempt.
