Kipyegon, Omanyala lead Kenyan contingent in chasing Diamond League glory on Saturday

The World Record holder over the women's 1500m is looking at taking her tally of Diamond League titles to four, having triumphed previously in 2017, 2021, and 2022.

Magnificient Faith Kipyegon will be out to defend her 1500m Diamond League trophy at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, USA on Saturday starting at 10:51 PM EAT.

The World Record holder over the distance is looking at taking her tally of Diamond League titles to four, having triumphed previously in 2017, 2021, and 2022.

The reigning World Champion will line up in Saturday’s 1500m final which will notably include Hirut Meshesha and Laura Muir, seeking to finish her hugely remarkable season on a high.

Commonwealth Games champion and Africa's fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala will be in the men's 100m race at 11:07 PM, where he will look to build on a weekend win in Zagreb, while also offering revenge to World Champion Noah Lyles and Letsile Tebogo of Botswana, who all finished ahead of him in Budapest.

Reynold Kipkorir and Abel Kipsang take part in the one mile (1600m) race at 11:50 PM, while the quartet of Commonwealth Games champion and 2023 World Championships bronze medalist Abraham Kibiwott, Simon Koech, Benjamin Kigen, and Amos Serem will line up in the men’s 3000m steeplechase at 11:19 PM.

World record holder in the 3000m women’s steeplechase Beatrice Chepkoech will be alongside her Kenyan compatriots Faith Cherotich and Jackline Chepkoech at 10:29 PM as they face stiff opposition from Bahraini Winfred Yavi who burst to a big win in Budapest in a time of 8:54.29.

All the 32 winners from the two-day event will receive a Diamond Trophy and $30,000 (Ksh 4.47m) each as prize money.
