Kipng'eno is a new face on the mountain running circuit. The 29 year old has been the revelation of the 2022 season.

Kenya's Patrick Kipng'eno clocked 1:30.46 to lead a Kenyan 1-2 as Philemon Kiriago finished behind him in 1:31.41 at the Trafeo Nasego golden label mountain running title.

Joyce Njeru continued her good form, clocking 1:50.14 to finish second in the women's race behind Mayr Andrea who won 1:47.32.

Kipngeno's victory on Saturday that saw him run the fastest ever race in the Italian Vertical Fidal championship which he dominated with an incredible new record of 33:47.

All the first four athletes in Saturday's race finished with times below Davide Magnini's previous record of 35:17 set in 2019.

Following a successful career on the roads, with personal bests of 62:49 for the Half Marathon and 29:20 for 10k, both set in Kenya at around 2,000m above sea level and both marks he is intent on improving, Kipngeno made his mountain running debut in winning the Kenyan national championships in 2020.

Now based in Austria and racing in the colours of Run2gether, Kipngeno has been unstoppable, each performance more impressive than the last.
