Reading Time: 1min | Sat. 21.12.24. | 13:11

Two runners from this year's NMDC Hyderabad Marathon have been affected

Over the past 24 hours, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has suspended Ezekiel Kipkorir, Elijah Kipkosgei, and Sheila Chebet of Kenya for doping-related offenses.

Kipkosgei has been provisionally suspended for the Presence of a Prohibited Substance (Triamcinolone acetonide) while Chebet is out for the Presence/Use of a Prohibited Substance (Tramadol).

Not much is known about Kipkosgei other than he clocked 2:18:28 during the 2023 Nairobi Marathon where he finished in 22nd place. He tested positive for Triamcinolone acetonide. The corticosteroid is used to treat a variety of conditions by reducing swelling, redness, itching, and allergic reactions.

Twenty-seven-year-old Chebet tested positive for Tramadol, used to treat severe pain. She is the second Kenyan athlete to get a suspension after racing the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon, which she won.

Kipkorir, who admitted wrongdoing to receive a three-year ban for the presence of Testosterone and at least one of its Metabolites 50-androstane-30,17 diol ("SaAdial) and/or Sa-androstane-30,17 diol (SAdiol) consistent with exogenous origin, had finished second in the same race.

Chebet ran 2:33:48 in Lisbon in October.
