
Kenyan duo Ngeno, Kipkemboi secure podium at Toronto Marathon

The Toronto Waterfront Marathon, an annual event, attracted nearly 30,000 elite and recreational athletes from around the world
Kenyan runners Dominic Ngeno and Noah Kipkemboi earned podium finishes at the Toronto Waterfront Marathon, with Ngeno taking second place and Kipkemboi finishing third.
Ngeno crossed the finish line in 2:07:23, while Kipkemboi followed closely at 2:07:31.
The race was won by Ethiopia’s Mulugeta Asefa, who claimed his second marathon victory of the season after his win at the Schneider Electric Marathon in Paris last April.
Asefa finished in 2:07:16, edging out his competitors in a thrilling race that came down to the final kilometers.
Ngeno’s second-place finish adds another highlight to his marathon career, while Kipkemboi demonstrated his resilience by securing third in a fiercely competitive field.
In the women’s race, Ethiopia dominated the podium in a historic performance.
Waganesh Mekasha shattered the Canadian soil record, winning with a time of 2:20:46.
Roza Dereje took second in 2:21:26, and Afera Godfay completed the podium in 2:21:50.
All three Ethiopian runners broke the previous course record of 2:22:16, set by Kenya’s Magdalene Masai in 2019.

Participants took on the streets of Toronto in marathon and half-marathon events on Sunday, while the 5K race was held on Saturday.
Over 100,000 spectators from more than 70 countries created an electrifying atmosphere, making it a record-breaking day, especially in the women’s race, where Ethiopian athletes excelled.
