Records for Kurgat, Chemnung in Tokyo as Cheptegei wins Delhi Half

In a field that had defending champion Evans Keitany, Amos Kurgat ran a spectacular race to win the third edition in a course record of 59:52, breaking the previous mark of 1:00:10 set by compatriot Vincent Kipkemoi in the inaugural edition in 2022. 

Bedan Karoki who placed third last year, clocked 1:00:38 for second place, as all podium finishers went under the previous course record.  Paul Kuira was third at 1:00:49.

In the women’s race, Kenya's dominance continued as Loice Chemnung clocked 1:07:27 to break Gladys Chepkurui's course best of 1:08:03 from last year's race. Caroline Nyaga won the inaugural edition in 1:08:23. 

Home runner Mao Kiyota was second in 1:11:29 as Khishigsaikhan Galbadrakh completed the podium places in 1:12:12. 

Meanwhile, Joshua Cheptegei clocked 59.46 to win the Vedanta Delhi Half in a race that had all the podium finishers dip under 60 minutes for the men and 70 for the women. 

The Ugandan Olympic champion finished ahead of the Kenyan duo of Alex Matata (59:53 ) and Nicholas Kipkorir (59:59).

In the women’s race, Alemaddis Eyayu of Ethiopia clocked 1:08:17 for victory, finishing ten seconds ahead of Kenya's Cynthia Limo, while compatriot Tiruye Mesfin came home in 1:09:42 to complete the podium for a 1-3 Ethiopian finish. 

Elsewhere, Uganda’s Ezekiel Mutai clocked 1:01:13 to win the Bilbao Half. Kenyan duo Wilson Kiprono Too (1:01:24) and Josphat Kiprono Menjo (1:01:28) completed the podium places, with the latter coming home in a personal best (PB) time. 

The women's race was an all-Kenyan affair, with the podium finishers making their debut in the distance and still dominating. 

Purity Kajuju Gitonga came home first at 1:08:52 and was followed by Sheila Cherotich at 1:10:34 and Sheila Jeruto at 1:13:27.
