The world record holder is going for a three-peat in 1500m at the Games, having triumphed in Rio and Tokyo. This will, however, be her first 5000m at the Olympics
Two-time Olympic Games 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon was in a class of her own as she took on a loaded field at the Athletics Kenya (AK) trials at Nyayo, clocking 14:46.30 to win the women's 5,000m.
Racing in her first competition this season after missing two Diamond League races in Xiamen, China and in Eugene, Kipyegon was clearly recovered from the injury that had kept her away from track.
Faith Kipyegon eases to a win in the 5000m in a time of 14.46.30. Beatrice Chebet places second.

Great to see Faith run comfortably after the injury that has seen her start her season in June.

Only Beatrice Chebet (14:52.55) and Margaret Chelimo (14:59.39) could keep up when she took lead, but it was not for long as she put daylight between her and the chasing pack in the last two laps for the victory.
The multiple world champion who is going for her third Olympic title in 1500m is expected to run a double in Paris.
"For now my focus is on running the 1500m on Saturday then we can talk about the double as the team has to be selected first," said Kipyegon after the race.
"I am happy to be back and in good health and form. I got alot of support when I was dealing with the muscle injury that delay my season debut and that has helped me. The injury is behind me and I am ready for an amazing season," she continued.
Kipyegon was full of praise for Chebet who has already been named in the 10,000m squad and will be competing the two distances.
"She is an amazing runner. After what we did together in Budapest, her winning bronze was amazing. This time we will strive to bring all the medals home," she added.
