Jakob had a fantastic 2024 season, breaking the 3,000m world record and claiming the Diamond League trophy.
There’s a regular honeymoon, and then there’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen's, a spectacular getaway that reportedly cost approximately 2.1 million shillings. Yes, you read that right.
The Norwegian Olympic champion and his wife, Elisabeth Asserson, went all out for their post-wedding celebration, choosing luxury accommodations and experiences for their romantic escape to the Maldives.
They tied the knot in September 2023 in a picturesque American-style ceremony at Drammen’s Bragernes Church in Norway, with around 120 guests. After the wedding, they jetted off to paradise.
The couple opted for an exclusive "Water Villa with VIP all-inclusive" package, which cost them a fortune. Elisabeth revealed that half-board options could have decreased the cost, but they chose the exclusive option.
"For a return flight, Water Villa with VIP all-inclusive, which was the package we chose, we paid NOK 182,000 ($16,591.91). If you choose half-board and other types of villas, you can get the price down quite a bit," she wrote on Snapchat in response to a fan, as reported by Norwegian outlet Dagbladet.
In the Maldives, they basked in white sands, turquoise waters, and the privacy of overwater bungalows, enjoying an experience synonymous with ultimate relaxation. Since their honeymoon, the couple has gone from strength to strength, welcoming their son, Filippa, in June 2024.
Just a month later, Jakob returned to the track at the Paris Olympics, securing gold in the 5,000m and enjoying a stellar season that included a new 3,000m world record and a Diamond League trophy. Jakob had a fantastic 2024 season, breaking the 3,000m world record and claiming the Diamond League trophy.
He is among six athletes nominated for the World Athlete of the Year award, with the gala scheduled to take place in Monaco later this year.
The system for selecting award winners has changed for 2024. Like last year, there will be three separate awards for men and women, recognizing the athletes of the year for track, field, and out-of-stadium events.
Additionally, there will be men’s and women’s awards for the overall World Athlete of the Year.
This will be the biggest award, coming with a handsome cash prize of $100,000 for each of the two winners.
