Wangari won Kenya's second medal in Birmingham on Saturday

Kenya's silver medalist in the women's marathon at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK Margaret Wangari is focused on shelling off some minutes on her Personal Best after setting one on Saturday.

Wangari finished second clocking 2:28:00 to claim Kenya's second medal after Michael Githae's bronze in the men's race over the same distance earlier in the day, and now is looking at doing away with three minutes to that time and run under 2:25:00.

"I appreciate the silver although I expected to bring home gold. I want to focus on lowering my personal best because I have set one here. I want to go for something under 2:25:00," Wangari said.

Wangari was the only Kenyan in the race after Stella Barsosio and Maureen Chepkemoi withdrew in the final minutes, something she says in a way affected her performance, and believes it would have been a different experience running with her teammates.

"When you look at the Australians for example, they had teamwork from the first kilometer and they were pushing. Running alone while representing the country was very tough. It would have been better if I had teammates," she added.

The 36-year-old however credited her daughter for continually pushing her to achieve a podium finish.

"My daughter has been learning the national anthem anticipating how it would have been played for me. She is always telling me to run like Mary Moraa," she finished.
