The Games return after an absence occasioned by the Covid 19 pandemic

Seven sports are set to feature at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games following confirmation of the tournament.

The Games are slated for August 4 to August 11, 2023 in Trinidad and Tobago, and will involve athletes aged 14-18 years.

The sports will take place in two clusters, one in Couva, Trinidad, and the other in Tobago, to bring a diverse perspective of the twin island country to the nations of the Commonwealth, as well as showcase a festival of the country’s activities.

Aquatics, athletics, cycling, rugby sevens, triathlon, and beach volleyball for both boys and girls across the six sports will take place, with there being FAST5 Netball for girls.

CGF President Dame Louise Martin expressed her delight at the resumption of the Youth Games, saying it will be an inspiring experience for the young athletes.

“We are delighted to confirm the Sport Programme for the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games, featuring much-anticipated debuts in the Youth Games for the dynamic and innovative FAST5 Netball and Triathlon. It promises to be a thrilling and competitive Games and exceptional showcasing of Caribbean and Commonwealth Sport. An invaluable springboard for the stars and leaders of tomorrow, the Games will be a truly special and inspiring experience for young athletes from across the Commonwealth,” she said.

Kenya last participated at the Youth Commonwealth Games in 2015 in Samoa and emerged fourth in the world, collecting seven medals in the process.
