
AK Trials: Abel Kipsang claims victory in thrilling 1500m final

There could be a possibility of four athletes qualifying for the World Championships with Cheruiyot possessing a wild card.
On form Abel Kipsang edged a strong field of athletes to claim victory in the 1500m men's final at the Athletics Kenya World Championships and Commonwealth Games trials held at the Kasarani Stadium on Saturday 25 June.
The 2019 Doha World Championships winner Timothy Cheruiyot come second as Kumari Taki finished third in a closely contested race that almost needed a photo finish to decide the winner.
Kipsang ran a time of 3:34.55 while Cheruiyot who finished second clocked 3.34.59 as Taki posted a time of 3.34.73.

The Managoi brothers of Elijah and George failed make the qualification cut with the former being a 2017 World Champion while the latter is the 2017 World 18 Champion.
Vincent Kibet who is the World Under 20 champion was also among the casualties as he found the going tough at the senior level.
Abel kipsang who was brief with his victory speech admitted that he was running against the very best and set a lofty target of winning gold in the World Championships.
"The race was competitive as the field had the best .My focus now is landing the gold medal in the global championships," said Kipsang.
Elsewhere in the women's 400m Mary Moraa set a national record of 50:84 to qualify for the World Championships while Veronica Mutual finished second at a time of 52:42 as Maureen Thomas clocked 54:07.
