AK Trials: Jepleting cruises to victory in 5000m as Moitalel finishes 3rd in 400m

Moitalel however sealed a place in the World Athletics Championships

Selah Jepleting claimed victory in the women's 5000m by a landslide victory while in the 400m Moitalel Nadokila confirmed his place in the World Championship in the Athletics Kenya trials at the Kasarani Stadium on Saturday 25 June.

Jepleting ran a time of 15:05:04 while Beatric Chebet came in second at a time of 15:07:74 as Margaret Chelimo clocked 15:10:35.

Olympic silver medalist Hellen Obiri sat out of the race having already sealed a place in the World Athletics Championships set for Oregon next month after previously meeting the qualification time.

The 2015 World Military Games Gold medalist in 1500m admitted that she did not fire in all cylinders in the race but hopes to return with a medal after the Championships.

"The race was okay though I did not live up to expectations. Heading to both events I expectel to fly the Kenyan flag high and get a medal for the country," said Jepleting.

Elsewhere in the 400m hurdles Wiseman Were cut the tape at a time of 49.09 while his compatriot William Mbevi finished at a time of 50.23 as Moitalel Nadokila came in third in 50.51.

Moitalel, the 2017 World Under 18 400m hurdles silver medalist sealed qualification to the World Championships after he successfully defended his title in the race during the South Eastern Conference (SEC) championships in Oxford, Mississippi.

None of the other athletes who finished the race was able to meet the qualification time set at 48.90.
