Despite a brilliant opening three games, Quins have lost their last three matches to drop to 5th place
Kenya Harlequin’s Senegalese head coach Amady Diallo has called for a mentality change from his players if the team is to make it to the coveted playoff spots in the 2021/2022 Kenya Cup campaign.
After a blistering start to life under the head coach who replaced Belgian Antoine Plasman back in October last year, the eight time Kenya Cup champions have found consistency hard to come by as they have lost their last three games in ceding ground in the playoff chase.
Quins started with three consecutive victories against Impala Saracens, Nondescripts and Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) but have seen all the gains made from that rallying start go down to the drain as they have been beaten by Homeboyz, Menengai Oilers and Strathmore Leos.
Following that losing streak, the Ngong Road based side have dropped out of the playoff spots into fifth place where a worried Diallo has now called on his side to think deeply should they want to challenge for the title that they have not seen since 2012.
“We played very badly against Leos. We dominated on the scrum but we left a lot of points out there. I told them we are not consistent. We played a good game against Oilers although we lost but against Leos we played really poorly. We are losing the games on small things that we should not be allowing to happen,” Diallo lamented.
Can't get over this win!

“That is why I think we have a lot of mental work to do if we are to achieve the playoff. The players need to either be ready or not. Rugby is just about mentality and I think we are not yet at the level that we need to be at. It is not about coaching. It is about the players. They really need to improve on the simple basics of the game,” the coach told to Mozzart Sport.
