The team came close last season but fell to Kabras Sugar in the final.

After finishing runners-up in the previous season, Menengai Oilers head coach Gibson Weru is looking to go one better this campaign and land the Kenya Cup title.

The Nakuru-based side have posted a perfect start to the season, winning their four opening games against Mean Machine, Kenya Harlequin, MMUST, and Homeboyz.

Weru admitted that they have set a target of clinching their maiden Kenya Cup title having gathered a wealth of experience from losing the final.

“Winning the title is the ultimate goal but there are small steps that we need to achieve before we get there, our main focus was to win the first four games.

We now have to sit back and reset for the next four and then we wind up with the last two, we fell short last year but now we have the experience,” said Weru.

Oilers had a season to remember last season despite losing the Kenya Cup title as they went on to win the National Sevens Circuit for the first time in their short history.

Weru added that his players who were selected in the Kenya Simbas squad that took part in the 2023 Rugby World Cup qualifiers and Currie Cup First Division have added experience to his side.

“The guys who played for Simbas in South Africa and in the Repechage have really brought our experience a notch higher and we also have some players in the 7s team.

Other teams are however also playing well so we have to ensure that we are getting better,” said the former Nakuru RFC head coach.
