Shujaa will be keen to build on the momentum from their performance in the second leg of the series in Cape Town, South Africa, in December, where they finished seventh
Former Kenya Sevens captain Vincent Onyala has been included in the Shujaa squad for the third leg of the HSBC SVNS Series; Perth 7s slated for Friday 24 to Sunday 26 January in Australia.
The KCB Rugby player missed the two opening legs of the HSBC Series due to contractual issues between them and the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU).
Another one missing the opening leg in Dubai, Anthony Omondi is also in the squad. Despite not being captains this time, the duo’s experience will be key in propelling Shujaa to greater heights.
Omondi returned to the squad during Cape Town 7s after missing out on Dubai 7s. He replaced Chrissant Ojwang who suffered an injury during the team's ninth-place semifinal against Ireland in Dubai.
Kabras Sugar RFC’s talented scrum-half Brian Tanga is also back in the star-studded squad.
Tanga did not feature in the opening legs of the series due to a wrist injury he sustained during Dala 7s. The injury saw him miss the last two outings of the 2024 National Sevens Circuit – Driftwood and Prinsloo 7s and was also sidelined from the Safari Sevens. He will be eager to make his comeback memorable.
The rest of the squad remains unchanged. Hard-hitting forward George Ooro captains the team and will be assisted by KCB Rugby’s scrum-half Samuel Asati. The duo has captained the team since the opening leg and will be looking to achieve greater milestones.
Kicking maestro Nygel Amaitsa of Strathmore Leos, speedster Patrick Odongo of Daystar Falcons, Festus Shiasi (KCB Rugby), Floyd Wabwire (Daystar Falcons), Dennis Abukuse (Menengai Oilers), and William Mwanji (Kabras RFC) are also part of the travelling party.
They will be keen to build on the momentum from their performance in the second leg of the series in Cape Town, South Africa, in December, where they finished seventh.
Head coach Kevin Wambua and his charges camped at the Menengai Oilers’ training facility in Nakuru as they sharpened their skills.
