Mola has been named in the Shujaa squad that will compete from Friday, 29 May, to Sunday, 31 May, in Valladolid, Spain, as Kenya looks to improve on their seventh-place finish at last month’s Hong Kong Sevens.
The Strathmore Leos youngster has steadily built a reputation as one of the country’s brightest rugby prospects despite his young age.
His rise has been backed by a string of individual accolades, among them the 2024 Great Rift 10s top try scorer award and most promising player title, as well as the 2022 Dala 7s most promising player recognition.
The youngster was part of the Chipu class of 2023 and earned his move to Strathmore Leos after impressing at Kisumu RFC during the 2022 season.
At the Nairobi-based side, he sharpened his game under the guidance of seasoned tactician Louis Khisia, who currently serves as Shujaa’s assistant coach.
Mola joined a Strathmore Leos setup that has continued producing top rugby talent, including captain George Ooro, Matoka Matoka, Richard Omedo, Gabriel Ayimba, and Nygel Amaitsa.
Among Mola’s notable achievements is representing the Kenya Rugby League National Team during its historic international debut at the Mid-East Rugby League Championship in Ghana, where Kenya fell 26-6 to the hosts in the semi-finals at the Legon Stadium in Accra.
He also featured for Chipu in the U20 Barthes Cup and the World Rugby U20 Trophy. During the latter competition, Kenya finished sixth after suffering a 64-10 defeat to defending Barthes Cup champions Zimbabwe Junior Sables.
Shujaa’s squad for the Valladolid assignment will be jointly captained by George Ooro and Samuel Asati as Kenya seeks a stronger outing on the global stage.
Other players expected to play key roles for the side include Kevin Wekesa, Dennis Abukuse, Brian Tanga, Nygel Amaitsa, Festus Shiasi, Chrissant Ojwang, John Okoth, and Patrick Odongo.
