Students dominate as Shujaa unveil 48-man provisional squad

Daystar University rugby team, Falcons, have emerged as the standout institution in the latest Kenya 7s provisional squad announcement, contributing eight players.

This is the highest from any single school or club for the 48-man roster.

Kenya 7s head coach Kevin Wambua, in collaboration with the chairman of selectors, Elijah Toili, unveiled the expansive squad that is set to form part of the feeder program for the country’s senior sevens teams, Shujaa and Morans.

The players will officially report to camp on Monday, 22 September, at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi, where they will begin an intensive training phase.

The camp is designed to sharpen their technical skills, enhance fitness, test tactical awareness, and develop the mental toughness and discipline required to thrive at an international level.

Among the new and promising names making the cut are Josephat Njunye (Nakuru RFC), Eugene Ojiambo (Mwamba Rugby), Dennis Ndayala (Mwamba Rugby), Nahashon Mwangemi (Mombasa SC Rugby), Dennis Nyongesa (Kenya Harlequins), Amon Bwambok (Impala Rugby), David Nyangige (Impala Rugby), Hassan Wambani (Catholic Monks), Brian Nyamboki (Catholic Monks), and Dennis Mulinge (Catholic Monks).

Daystar Falcons’ heavy representation includes Patrick Odongo, Clinton Amukuachi, Arnold Agonda, Eddy Wambugu, Tony Ogoma, Wilson Otieno, Vincent Omurukwa, and Chris Obuya.

Other clubs and schools with strong call-ups include KCB Rugby, which produced seven players led by stalwarts Vincent Onyala, Samuel Asati, and Elvis Olukusi.

Kabras RFC has six, among them Brian Tanga and Kevin Wekesa, and Menengai Oilers, who contributed four, including Dennis Abukuse and Daniel Kipchirchir.

The Strathmore Leos also secured significant representation, with six players, while Catholic Monks continued their steady growth with three inclusions.
