Kimani leaves his latest stint at Shujaa after one and a half years.

Kenya’s renowned strength and conditioning coach Geoffrey Kimani has confirmed his exit from the men’s national rugby 7s side Shujaa after a one and a half year stay.

Having joined the team back in January 2022 when the team was under the guidance of Innocent ‘Namcos’ Simiyu, Kimani announced his exit amidst a planned shakeup at the national 7s teams.

“End of my journey as the strength and conditioning coach for the Kenya 7s rugby team. Always a pleasure and honor to serve my country and more specially, helping young sportsmen achieve their full athletic potential and doing so safely

In what was a tough year off the pitch, I accepted the challenge fully aware of the magnitude of what lay ahead. Physically, I leave a great team of young, robust men whom I have full faith in their ability to bounce back again,” Kimani posted.

“I remain committed to this beautiful game of rugby and will continue giving back through my other capacities on the turf and in classrooms.

To the Kenya 7s boys, thanks for your time, sweat, and blood. You kept on your feet through all those hard grinding days, never buckled in spite of all, worthy of those wings that you'll forever don. God bless!” Kimani added.

It is understood that Kimani, who boasts of a wealth of experience in strength and conditioning both in rugby and football circles, will be replaced by Kenya Simbas’ Richard Ochieng.

Apart from working for Kenya Sevens, Kimani has also had stints at Uganda Sevens and Kenya Harlequins teams. In football he has played the role at Tusker FC and Mathare United football clubs.
