The students had last won the Prinsloo title in 2009
Strathmore Leos are the 2024 Prinsloo 7s champions after heaping a 33-7 misery on Nondies RFC in the final match played on Sunday 15 September at the Nakuru Athletic Club.
The win, quenches their 15-year thirst for a Prinsloo 7s title having last won it in 2009.
The final was a rematch of the 2023 Tisap 7s showdown, where Nondies had defeated the students Leos in sudden death.
Before kickoff, a moment of silence was held in memory of Rift Valley Region Rugby Referees Chairman Daniel Chibata, who passed away earlier in the week.
Further, Strathmore Leos wore customed t-shirts, in solidarity with Harold Tende who is battling cancer.
Leos started the final in style, with Collins Maina opening the scoring by beating his marker on the right wing for a 7-0 lead, with Arnold Muita getting the conversion right.
Nygel Amaitsa followed up with a dazzling solo effort, and George Ooro added a third try from a well-executed ruck.
Gabriel Ayimba nearly scored a fourth but was tackled just short of the try line.
Nondies hit back early in the second half with a try from Benson Salem, but Strathmore quickly reasserted control. Philemon Olang and Stanislaus Shikoli added two more tries to complete the 33-7 victory.
Nondies' hopes of a comeback were dashed by a knock-on during a crucial attacking phase.
Third-place playoff
Outgoing Prinsloo 7s champions Kabras RFC secured third place, defeating Menengai Oilers 19-0, finishing second overall in the National 7s Circuit standings.
