The squad will be captained by former Kenya Rugby Union secretary Eddie Omondi

On Saturday, June 8, the King’s Park Arena in Kampala, Uganda, will throw open its doors to an extraordinary sporting action as the highly anticipated Legends Cup takes centre stage.

Brimming with nostalgia, this occasion will bring together a collection of legendary rugby players who have long hung their boots, with some embracing managerial roles in esteemed clubs.

The match is also expected to revive the glory days of some of the greatest legends in the history of Kenyan rugby.

The 80 minutes of nostalgia will mark the third meeting between these two sides. Their last meeting at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi lived up to its billing, with Kenya defeating Uganda 31-12.

Before that, the legends had faced off at the Kyadondo Grounds in Kampala, with the Kenyan legends edging their neighbours 38-6. They will be looking to stage a repeat of the same this afternoon.

The travelling squad that will be coached by internationally renowned rugby player Oscar Osir is littered with talent, including former Kenya 7s superstar brothers Collins Injera and Humphrey Kayange.

Also in the travelling party are the current director of Kenya, Simbas Moses Mukabane, and Victor Sudi, the Kenya Harlequins director. The Bankers’ dynamic duo of George Asin, who recently hung his boots, and Curtis Lilako are part of the squad.

Lavin Asego will also feature for Nondies Legends, transporting the fanbase back to his heydays as Kenya’s deadliest fly-half. Asego made history as the first Kenyan to score 1000 points for Kenya in the World Series. He has 1026 points for Kenya and is joined only by Collins Injera in the highly-exclusive 1000-point club.

Former Kenya Simbas international Francis Mutuku will enjoy sharing a pitch with his coach, Ben Nyambu who led them to their first National 7s Circuit during Tisap 7s. Nyambu was a hard-hitting playmaker during his days at Kenyan International.

The squad will be captained by former Kenya Rugby Union secretary Eddie Omondi.

The likes of Peter Tyrell, Edward Aseko, Michael Kimani, Odi Odera, Mark Dunford, Steve Odhiambo, and Felix Osiemo are part of the travelling party.

Beyond the final score, the match served as a get-together moment for the legends, who shared moments, reigniting their old glory.
