Mozzart Sport takes a closer look at the pools:

Pool A

Defending champions KCB Rugby headline Pool A, where they will face Nakuru RFC, Mean Machine, and Mombasa RFC, who are back in Division One after receiving an invitation following their absence in Embu.

The Bankers, who have lifted the last three Kabeberi titles, are chasing a fourth straight crown.

This year, however, they arrive under new leadership, with former Kenya Sevens legend Andrew Amonde stepping in as head coach following the temporary suspension of Dennis Mwanja.

Amonde has named a star-studded squad including speedster Floyd Wabwire, former captain Vincent Onyala, who has made three consecutive Dream Teams this season, alongside Emmanuel Opondo, Bob Muhati, Festus Shiasi, and Elvis Olukusi.

Nakuru RFC, who missed the Embu 7s quarterfinals, will be keen to bounce back.

Coach Oscar Ouma has recalled Javan Otieno and Wilson Makete, while Fidel Wekesa is set for his debut with the side.

Mean Machine, who returned to the top tier in Embu, and Mombasa RFC will also be looking to make their mark.

Pool B

Fresh from their Embu 7s triumph, Strathmore Leos lead Pool B alongside Kenya Harlequin, hosts Mwamba RFC, and the invited side Impala RFC.

The Leos have been the most consistent side this season, winning two of the four legs and reaching every semifinal.

They currently sit second on the overall log with 80 points, just two behind KCB. At their last RFUEA outing, they finished third after falling to Menengai Oilers in the semis, a result they will want to improve on.

Kenya Harlequin, the defending Circuit champions, have endured a rough season, only reaching one semifinal in four attempts.

Their title defense looks all but over, and with reports of training disruptions due to payment delays, their Kabeberi performance remains unpredictable.

Hosts Mwamba RFC, under coach Lavin Asego, will be hoping home advantage helps them advance past the group stage.

Impala RFC, who made history at Christie 7s by reaching their maiden quarterfinals at the RFUEA Grounds, will be aiming to build on that breakthrough despite inconsistent form.

Pool C

Pool C has been dubbed the “group of death,” featuring varsity powerhouses MMUST Rugby, Daystar Falcons, Catholic Monks, and newly promoted Homeboyz RFC.

MMUST reached their first semifinal of the season at Embu, where they fell to KCB. They will be eager to go one better. Daystar Falcons, though inconsistent, have shown flashes of brilliance but need sharper finishing, a flaw that cost them dearly at Embu.

Catholic Monks have been unpredictable but proved their quality by finishing third at the Prinsloo 7s. They will aim to replicate that form at RFUEA.

Homeboyz RFC, back in the top division after winning the Division Two title in Embu, will be looking to cause upsets.

Pool D

Menengai Oilers headline Pool D, joined by Kabras Sugar, Embu RFC, and invited side Kisumu RFC.

The Oilers have been one of the standout teams this season and will look to continue their momentum. Kabras Sugar, however, have struggled, even failing to reach the Christie 7s quarterfinals at the same venue. Kabeberi offers them a chance at redemption.

Embu RFC and Kisumu RFC, who received invitations to Division One, will also be aiming to impress.

Division Two

The second-tier competition also promises thrills, with Nondies RFC, Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad, Zetech Oaks, and Kabarak University among the sides battling for the crown.
