The team has missed two of their opening fixtures against Boland Cavaliers and Leopards
Kenya 15s national team, Simbas were set to begin their Currie Cup matches on April 1, but they had to wait longer. The delay saw them fail to honor two of their opening Currie Cup fixtures against Boland Cavaliers in Cape Town on April 1 in Cape Town, and against Leopards in Potchefstroom on April 8.
Owing to that, Mozzart Sport caught up with the newly elected Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Chairman Sasha Mutai who shed light on the situation. Mutai explained that the team’s absence was due to a delay in the release of resources.
“It was a delay in the release of resources,” Mutai revealed.
Despite that, he assured that matters were under control, and the team would fly out on Friday, 14 April.
“But this week we have gotten the resources so they should be traveling on Friday. There was a delay in the release of resources but we have gotten an alternative, and yesterday and today (April 11,12), they were dealing with the visas and then they should be flying out on Friday,” Mutai assured.
The rugby 15s side Kenya Simbas will play three of their 9 Currie Cup First Division One Challenge fixtures in Nairobi against the Goshawks, Valke and SWD Eagles.

The former KRU Vice Chairman also revealed that Kenya Simba’s third Currie Cup match against San Clemente Rhinos (whose venue is yet to be communicated) has been moved to April 16 from April 15.
This year’s Currie Cup First Division Mzansi Challenge is an important competition for the Simbas who are looking to build on their previous appearances and make a strong showing against some of the best teams in South Africa and beyond. The team missed the two opening matches and have seven more to play. The Jerome Paarwater-coached side will need to be at their best.
