Shujaa thump Zimbabwe in Rugby Africa Solidarity 7s opener

Kenya beat Zimbabwe 24-0 in their first game of the Rugby Africa Solidarity 7s.

Shujaa were off to a flier in their Rugby Africa Solidarity 7s, whitewashing Zimbabwe 24-0 on Saturday 8 May in Cape Town, South Africa.

Kenya 7s who have already booked a ticket to the 2020 Olympic Games slated for 23 July to 8 August 2021 is using the games as preparation for the global sporting event.

After a shaky start to the game that saw them knock the ball twice, Kenya finally got their grove and crossed the whitewash through Jacob Ojee with Tony Omondi converting the try for a 7-0 lead.

Innocent Simiyu’s charges finished the first half strong with a converted try as they went into the break with a 14-0 lead. 


Shujaa continued from where they left from in the first half as Alvin Buffa Otieno got his name on the try list but Omondi failed to add two points on the scoreboard after a failed conversion.

The second half mirrored the first half with Kenya closing the game with a try but again missed the conversion to hand Zimbabwe a 24-0 thumping.

South Africa who are the only other nation in the continent to have sealed a place in the Olympics also opened their campaign with a 26-7 win over Uganda.

Kenya next faces South Africa 1 in their second encounter of the day with the kick-off time slated for 12:30 PM (EAT).
