Kenya now lie second in Pool B behind the perfect Spain and with a match left on Saturday
Kenya 7s national team; Shujaa suffered a narrow 10-5 loss to hosts Spain in the second match of the HSBC 7s playoffs played on Friday 31 May in Madrid, Spain.
Despite the narrow defeat, Shujaa brought their A-game on board, but the Spaniards were tactical, clinical, and very physical.
They easily forced turnovers, proving too strong for the Kenyans. The brutally physical match served all the ingredients of a mouthwatering fixture.
Shujaa took a long time to settle in the game, and their hosts capitalized on that to score two tries in the opening half.
The first half was characterized by lots of infringements from Shujaa. The massive home support of the Spain fans also seemed to demoralize the visitors.
In fact, Spain were reduced to six men but still proved superior over the determined Kenyans.
Kenya’s sole try was scored by Vincent Onyala who was momentarily injured during the game.
The Kenyans currently sit second in Pool B and will aim to win their final pool match to proceed to the tournament’s semifinals.
They will play Chile on Saturday at 8:18pm.
They were coming from a motivating 19-12 win over Samoa.
