Shujaa playing schedule in the Hong Kong Sevens has been released ahead of the tournament scheduled for Friday to Saturday at the famous Hong Kong Stadium.

Damian Mc Grath’s charges are expected kick off their campaign with a match against New Zealand on Friday morning at 9.40am.

New Zealand are the current log leaders with 120 points and Shujaa are bracing for an uphill task. They will then have the day to rest and train for Saturday’s matches.

On Saturday 1 April, the Kenyan team is set to tackle Ireland at 6.28am before locking horns with South Africa at 10.25am.

Shujaa defeated the Blitzboks 17-12 in Vancouver and the African rivalry is expected to be renewed this weekend. Ninth-placed Ireland will also be keen to cause havoc in the pool.

Shujaa squad for Hong Kong

Jeff Oluoch is set to make his first start of this season’s World Rugby 7s Series after being named in Shujaa’s travelling squad to the Hong Kong and Singapore 7s legs.

Johnstone Olindi also returns to the squad for the first time since the Dubai and Cape Town rounds of this season’s series as Dennis Abukuse missed out on the travelling party.

Shujaa registered an improved performance in the seventh leg, Vancouver, finishing in 10th position to remain at position 13 on the world standings with 29 points. They will be seeking to amass maximum points to avoid relegation.

How relegation will be decided

The 15th ranked core team based on accumulated series points following the tenth round in Toulouse will be relegated.

Teams ranked 12th, 13th, and 14th following the World Series in Toulouse will compete in a four-team relegation playoff with the 2023 Challenger Series winners in Toulouse.

The relegation playoff will be a round-robin format, with the top two teams advancing to the final.

The winner will be the 12th core team on the 2024 World Rugby Challenger Series, while the other teams will compete in their respective regional Sevens Championships to qualify for the 2024 World Rugby Challenger Series.
