School Games: Koyonzo to face Vihiga in KSSSA Rugby 7s national final

The finalists alongside St Mary's Yala have their tickets to the East Afroca games set for Huye, Rwanda.

Koyonzo High and Vihiga High have successfully cruised to the final of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) rugby 7s games ongoing at the Bull Ring grounds in Kakamega.

Koyonzo Stormers managed a 33-0 clean sheet against Eastern-based Kitondo High while Vihiga defeated on-form St Mary's Yala 34-7 in the other semi-final.

To reach the semifinal stage, Koyonzo had defeated Lenana High 36-5 in the quarterfinals while Kitondo saw off Bungoma 26-12.

The Stormers scored through Brandon Mulefu (brace), Maxwell Kipsang, Darrel Omondi, and Kevin Otieno. Eric Simiyu's kicking prowess added the extras.

In the second semifinal match, Vihiga showcased mastery through Owen Kedera, Bellan Kiketi, Roy Maruti, and Brandon Lilumbi. Maruti also managed the conversions.

St Mary's Yala sole try was through Brian Ochieng. Glacious Nganya added the extras.

Koyonzo Stormers head coach Elly Okwemba praised his charges efforts, noting that their attack and defense worked wonders. Okwemba also noted that his boys’ organization disrupted Kitondo's structure.

"Our target is the East African trophy. We will not lose sight till we get it. The boys have done well. I am proud," the Swahili teacher offered.

The Stormers will be looking to retain the maiden KSSSA Rugby 7s title they won last year in Nakuru.

Kitondo High School were also making a maiden appearance in the KSSSA National rugby 7s games.
